700 thousand euros are coming from the Region for the environmental redevelopment , restoration and protection of the dune system of the Torre Grande beach . The resolution allocating the resources was approved in recent days by the council.

«On Torre Grande - says the mayor Massimiliano Sanna - we have numerous actions underway which in the space of a few years will be able to redevelop the seaside resort . The interventions on the seafront and at the small port will make it possible to carry out infrastructural and service works that are fundamental for a tourist destination, while with this project we will intervene on the more strictly environmental aspects. The affected area is the sandy coastal strip in the sector between the Torre Grande and Villa Baldino , a stretch of urban coast with a high touristic seaside interest».

The Councilor for the Environment Maria Bonaria Zedda recalls how the safeguarding of the environmental and landscape values of the coast is one of the main objectives of the Municipality's action. «In recent months we have asked the regional environment councilor Gianni Lampis for specific funding for the environmental requalification, restoration and protection of the dune system of the Torre Grande beach. In this context, the space of the beach facing the urban seafront of the township assumes particular importance, to combine the values of environmental protection with the legitimate interests of citizens, tourists and tourist businesses, who would like a more usable space for bathing ».

«The intervention aims at the recovery of the original morphological and sedimentological system of the beach to obtain a structure of greater stability of the sandy arc and greater defense against the dangers of marine erosion and coastal flooding. The naturalistic engineering works on the dunes will have to favor their reconstruction by strengthening the medium-long term stability of the sandy coast», concludes Zedda.
