Olbia, the Municipality wants to buy the historic Astra cinema to build a theater

Abandoned for decades, the historic Astra cinema theater could be revived : a dream for theater enthusiasts that could come true. It is the intention of the municipal administration that next Friday will bring the authorization to stipulate a preliminary sale of the structure to the examination of the municipal council aimed at carrying out redevelopment interventions on the building, which has long since been abandoned to decay, to equip the city of a public theater .

Privately owned, built in the 1950s and closed since the 1980s, the Astra Cinema has always been an object of interest to the Municipality which, over the years, has tried in vain to buy it.

In the early 2000s there was an attempt to relaunch it, with a grand reopening, but in the following years two fires decreed its definitive abandonment . However, its location in the heart of the city and the size of the spaces still make it the ideal site for a real theater capable of hosting opera, concerts and larger productions on its stage that today do not find space in the Olbia cinema theater which hosts the shows of the Cedac circuit.
