Having taken off from Wichita on April 4, it landed this morning at the Costa Smeralda, the only Italian stopover on the flight to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the first high-altitude round-the-world trip.
The general aviation of the Olbia airport hosted the Century mission which is circumnavigating the world - eleven stops, beyond Olbia, California, Hawaii, Marshall Islands, Palau, Singapore, India, Dubai, Egypt, Portugal and Canada to return, on April 6, in Wichita - to commemorate the World Flight, the first flight around the globe, which left Seattle on April 6, 1924 for a 175-day journey that covered over 26 miles (more than 24 thousand kilometers) crossing the North Pacific, l South Asia and Europe, with 74 stopovers, carried out on four planes with eight pilots from the US Army Air Service.
From April 4 to 6, Commander Bart Gray, together with three co-pilots and an observer, accomplished the same historic feat, estimating they would complete it in approximately 54 hours.
