Last night, around 1 a.m., yet another violent brawl erupted inside the CAS in Monastir, culminating in the stabbing of a resident. To escape the attackers, the injured man fled to the few law enforcement officers present. The group's reaction was immediate and violent: a hail of stones hit the staff, damaging a police car and a container used as an office.

"We're at the point of absurdity and on the brink of survival," declared Rosario Trovato, provincial secretary of the Autonomous Police Union (SAP). " For months, we've been denouncing the folly of a system that sees over 800 migrants crammed into a facility with no real structural division between the CAS and the Hotspot, manned only by a handful of police officers. Our colleagues are cannon fodder in a veritable free zone dominated by illegality, improper weapons, and dangerous individuals who take refuge in the center after committing crimes outside."

"We won't wait for someone to die before we see concrete action," he continued. "We're calling for the immediate physical separation of the facilities, the deployment of emergency reinforcements, and we're also ready to file a complaint with the Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office to determine who is responsible for this disastrous and dangerous management ."
