Over €1.3 million to improve access to Alghero Airport and upgrade the route leading to it. Exactly €1,333,333.33 is the amount allocated to the city as part of "The Gates of Sardinia," the regional program funded by the 2021-2027 Development and Cohesion Fund. The memorandum of understanding was signed this morning in Cagliari by the regional councilor for Tourism , Franco Cuccureddu , and the mayors of the ten municipalities involved: Alghero, Cagliari, Elmas, Golfo Aranci, Olbia, Oristano, Porto Torres, Santa Giusta, Santa Teresa Gallura, and Tortolì.

The program provides a total of €12 million to improve the island's main entry points from an urban, landscape, and functional perspective. Projects may include greenery and landscaping, lighting, signage, street furniture, roads, access routes, and parking areas. For Alghero, the first project focuses primarily on making access to the airport safer and more accessible .

"We have presented a project that includes protected crossings, dedicated lighting, traffic calming measures, and improved accessibility to the airport," explains Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto . The goal is to improve the route from the Ungias-Galanté roundabout to the Via Don Minzoni roundabout, although the presence of several road authorities, including ANAS (National Roads Authority) and the Metropolitan City, will require coordinated work. "In the immediate future," Cacciotto emphasizes, "we believe it is possible to make some improvements to the municipal area, thus improving the quality and dignity of access to one of the main gateways to our city."
