OK from the ministry for the submarine electric cable that will connect Sardinia, Corsica and Tuscany

Green light from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security for the definitive project of Sa.Co.I.3.
Terna's submarine electric cable will connect Sardinia, Corsica and Tuscany, in direct current at 200 kV and with a total transport capacity of up to 400 MW.
The work has obtained authorization from the ministry: Terna has planned a total investment of approximately one billion euros to strengthen the current electricity connection which dates back to the early 1990s.

Terna announces that it will complete the work by 2027, ensuring a reduced environmental impact on the territories involved and maximum sustainability.

«The renewal and strengthening of the connection between Italy, Sardinia and Corsica is a project of great importance not only for the supply of Corsica, but also for the Italian electricity system. It will contribute to strengthening the adequacy of Sardinia's electricity system, especially in view of the objective of the phase-out from coal", declares the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
The details
Two new conversion stations will be built, one in Codrongianos and one in Suvereto, in the province of Livorno. The laying of new submarine cables for a length of 120 km and underground cables for 20 km from the landings to the electricity stations is also planned, using, where possible, the existing infrastructure. The landings of the submarine cables will be located in Santa Teresa Gallura in Sardinia and in Salivoli, in the municipality of Piombino, in Tuscany.
