After the fear, only the acrid smell of burning remains. Among the territories of Villagrande, Girasole and Lotzorai the scars of a day's campaigns in the fight against fires remain.

Dozens of hectares of Mediterranean scrub and woodland: all evaporated in a few hours under the violence of the flames . f the flames that made their way downstream of Villagrande, between Santa Lucia and Baus, where about forty hectares went up in smoke. Flames that in their advance destroyed a natural treasure near provincial road 27.

The second fire of the afternoon was minor, in Birdedu, a western suburb of Girasole: a farmhouse evacuated as a precaution. Finally, the fire of Lotzorai, on the lateral slope of the church of Santa Barbara, in the Donigala district. The flames crossed the land and licked the houses. Here too an evacuated house. Initially it was feared that the fire could spread towards the camping area on the coast, but the timely intervention of the firefighting teams prevented that from happening. Car wrecks parked in private courtyards were burned in the fire.

Forestry, Forestas, firefighters and barracelli teams worked in Ogliastra. In addition, in the places crossed by the fires, carabinieri, police and agents of the competent local police intervened.

From the sky , helicopters and Canadair helped to tame the fires. Also at the forefront were the mayors of the three centres, Alessio Seoni (Villagrande), Lodovico Piras (Girasole) and Cesare Mannini (Lotzorai), who, supported by their fellow councilors and advisers, followed the extinguishing operations.
