The Orthopedics of San Francesco still far from a full reopening forces an 8-year-old boy from Ottana who was injured in a playroom to an odyssey . Two days and kilometers for an operation.
And from the young mother, PF, returning from a tour de force in three hospitals, comes an appeal to strengthen the health system of the Barbagia capital.
"It was 6:00 p.m. when my son had a bad fall in the playroom that caused him a serious injury to his arm. Alerted by the teachers, together with my husband and the child, we rushed to the San Francesco hospital , where we were treated with great professionalism, first in the pediatric emergency room and then in radiology. The tests revealed a compound fracture ."
So the transfer to Orthopedics was arranged for the child, one minute after the department closed , at 8:00 pm: « The doctor who had finished his shift at 8:00 pm shouted at the Oss who was transporting us. We were shocked, but we had no choice but to return to Nuoro the next day at 8:00 am».
And the next day, another cold shower: "They explained to us that the child needed an operation that, however, they could not perform". A real odyssey ensued, with the family arriving in the morning at San Martino in Oristano and from there being sent again to Brotzu in Cagliari : "After hours of waiting - explains the woman -, at 12:30, in orthopedics they explained to us that they were living in a similar situation to the one in Nuoro, assigning us to Brotzu , but not before alerting Cagliari of our arrival. Surprised, we asked ourselves why they didn't do the same in Nuoro".
At 3:30 pm the arrival in the capital, where the little boy is hospitalized and operated on Thursday 17 : «After a week of hospitalization - concludes the mother - our son is better, he is continuing the treatments at home. In Nuoro we need to change course, fully reopening the Orthopedics , so that other parents are not forced to live what we are living».
Paolo Cannas, director general of ASL 3 : « We are working hard to reopen the department, where there are still staff shortages . We are doing our best to remedy this, in synergy with the health department».
