The battle against the hypothesis of building hotels and sports facilities in the lands of Surigheddu and Mamuntanas, in Alghero , has restarted.

The municipal assembly of the Catalan town is addressing the discussion of the Puc, the municipal urban plan that will govern the development of the territory. "And among the many things, the destination of the lands and farms of Surigheddu and Mamuntanas to hotels and sports facilities should also be foreseen ": the complaint is from the independence party Liberu, which for years has opposed the decisions of the regional council on those areas.

As early as 2016, the party, then led by Pier Franco Devias, signaled "first with a sensational blitz and then with a symbolic occupation of the lands, the attempt made by the then junta Pigliaru to put the companies up for sale through an international tender". Similar story in 2021, "following the statements of the Solinas junta, which confirmed the same will as the previous junta".

For the separatists «in a land that imports 80% of agri-food products, those hundreds of hectares of fertile land are still thought of only as a tourist rather than an agricultural function. All this seems to us to be a crazy project of a political class with no foresight and no prospect of autonomous development".

Within Liberu there is the belief that "it is necessary to relaunch our economy , build a future based on our resources and give work to the many unemployed Sardinians, who are emigrating every day and for whom it is not possible to provide only a job of seasonal workers in the tourism sector».

The objective of the battle against "total-tourism" is to subtract "other poorly paid hands from the potentates and lobbies of international tourism".
