«With the official status of the new Giunta , the time has come to interrupt this journey ».

Mario Nieddu , now a former health councilor replaced by Carlo Doria after the latest reshuffle of the regional council, takes stock of four years of "intense work , more than half committed to managing a pandemic, an epochal historical emergency, not yet completely behind".

It claims «the implementation of a reform which, with the Local Health Authorities, has brought the management of health services back to the territories, close to the citizens and their health needs. We have laid the foundations for a new model of assistance through the Health Services Plan and we have integrated it with that of personal services which in Sardinia has been missing for almost sixteen years, inaugurating a modern and efficient healthcare model".

In particular, " for the new territorial healthcare we have planned resources for around 290 million euros , including PNRR, PNC and regional funds, for the construction of 20 Community Hospitals and fifty Community Houses, in addition to investments for the construction of territorial operations and for the technological modernization of our hospitals, including telemedicine". A technological advance «on which we have focused since the beginning of my mandate through a three-year plan of 136 million euros which also includes healthcare construction, as well as resources for the renewal of radiotherapy in Cagliari, Sassari and Nuoro. We have also started numerous construction sites; last, and only in chronological order, the laying of the first stone of the new hospital of San Gavino Monreale, a modern and strategic work financed with 68 million euros that the area had been waiting for for twenty years».

To resolve " the chronic shortage of personnel , in particular specialist doctors, the result of a short-sighted planning that has worsened over the last decade", " every tool at our disposal has been put in place , starting with training, for which, in advance of the line taken on nationally with the arrival of Covid, we have increased the additional regional scholarships for specialization schools, bringing them from just under thirty to over 250 new scholarships available every year". To strengthen the regional health system " we have announced over 160 competitions in four years to which are added hundreds of selections and stabilizations ".

During the pandemic emergency «we have come to recruit every doctor available in our area who was in possession of a qualification. And precisely in the darkest years of Covid we must not forget the management of the pandemic in hospitals and in the area with the implementation of a massive screening campaign , unique in Italy, and a complex vaccination campaign of the largest ever previous experience".

Furthermore, the activation of the Single Emergency Number (NUE) 112, the assignment of the missing offices since 2014, the approval of the guidelines for the identification of disadvantaged and extremely disadvantaged offices, the reduction of waiting times for access to benefits.

On the African swine fever front, "we have brought Sardinia one step away from an historic result that is only waiting to be formalized in mid-December, with the revision of the restrictions on the export of animals and products that have weighed on the island's farmers since 2011 ».
In conclusion «I can only thank my valuable staff, the personnel of the two departments of the Department who have worked tirelessly to achieve these objectives, with professionalism and dedication, but above all the health professionals, from doctors to the sector, to whom I I would recommend that you always keep the tiller straight . Sardinia will continue to count on you. And I hope, in my small way, that I have contributed to making you proud to work for our health care".
