Tomorrow, the final embrace will be given to Nicola Atzori, the 20-year-old from Ghilarza who died in a car accident between Saturday night and Sunday.
According to an initial reconstruction, the crash occurred on a curve a few kilometers from Nughedu Santa Vittoria. The 22-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan apparently lost control of the car, which crashed into a guard rail and then into a tree, overturning.
Nicola Atzori, who was sitting in the back seat and apparently wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and left him with no chance of survival. The driver and his two other friends (who were wearing seatbelts) were injured and were later taken to hospitals in Nuoro and Oristano. Their condition is stable, but doctors are not worried, although they are deeply shocked by the incident.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office has opened a case against the 22-year-old driver, but this is a necessary step. Initial tests revealed that the young man, a student at the University of Cagliari, tested negative for both breathalyzer and drug tests. Further tests are pending, including those on the car to determine a possible mechanical failure. The stretch of the provincial road where the accident occurred is undoubtedly extremely dangerous, with several treacherous curves and poor road markings, so much so that even a desperate attempt to brake was unable to avoid the horrific impact.
