The Municipality of Cagliari knocks on the Fair to find a space to set up the stage for the New Year's concert.

There is currently only one certainty regarding the maxi event for the last night of 2023: the municipal council has identified Marco Mengoni as the "star of international appeal" who will have to accompany the city towards 2024 .

The choice was made, but it was not official: the signature on the contract is still missing, which can only arrive after the response from the artist's manager.

There are still no certainties regarding who will have to organize the evening: the expressions of interest from Insula Events and Vox Day, which had responded to a September call from the Tourism department, remained unanswered, the hypothesis is that everything will pass into the hands of a another organisation, on which there are currently no defined elements. And it is not excluded that official appeals and requests for clarification may arrive on the matter.

In the meantime, however, we need to find space. The same resolution that indicates Mengoni - approved on November 22nd but published only yesterday - confirms the desire, already expressed in a previous act, that the concert «be held in the area of Piazza Paolo VI – Viale Diaz rather than in Largo Carlo Felice/ Piazza Yenne, as originally planned."

A decision imposed by the construction site in via Roma, which would not guarantee the safety standards necessary for an event that should attract tens of thousands of spectators.

But apparently there are also doubts about the new location. Because even Piazza dei Centomila might not go well. So much so that yesterday, Wednesday, in the evening, the leaders of the Business Service Center were contacted to evaluate the availability of the spaces in the exhibition centre.

«And we said yes», explains the president of the CSI (special agency of the Chamber of Commerce that manages the area and pavilions) Gianluigi Molinari, «because I believe that the vocation of the Fair area is also to host events of this magnitude. It's in his DNA. And given the critical issues experienced in the city", he adds, perhaps in reference to the "restricted" traffic due to works, "we have made ourselves available". The discussions have therefore begun.

But how many spectators could pass through the gates if the Fiera operation were to be successful? «We have a safety plan for almost 30 thousand people», assures Molinari, who recalls the numbers authorized on the occasion of Vasco Rossi's big concert in 2019. At that time it was necessary to "cut" the fence on via Pessagno, to guarantee further emergency exits given the large amount of people. « And that system is still usable», assures Molinari, «those structures are bolted and not fixed».

But if the capacity of the Fair is around 30 thousand people, a private event is planned for New Year's Eve in one of the pavilions. Expected participants: a few thousand. Are paid parties and concerts that overlap compatible? «We make the spaces available. The rest must be seen by the relevant bodies", comments Molinari.
