The project for the new stadium in Cagliari sees a significant step forward today. Funds - crucial for the construction of the facility that will be built in place of the Sant'Elia - which can now therefore be released. Recently, at the end of May, the last additions to the project had arrived .
The overall cost of the project is just over 209,910,700.65 euros, of which 10 million are paid by the Municipality of Cagliari and the aforementioned 50 million are paid by the Region of Sardinia . The public co-financing will cover the economic framework for the construction of the work, which will be awarded through an international tender.
The next step, while waiting for the long-awaited start of works (which will be preceded by the demolition of Sant'Elia, which has been abandoned for eight years), is the Conference of Services. «We are working to ensure that fans have a new home for Cagliari Calcio, also in view of the 2032 European Football Championship» , said Mayor Massimo Zedda, who recalled how the new facility (which will be named after Gigi Riva) is among those nominated to host the international event, which Italy will organize together with Turkey.
