A meeting with government representatives to talk about the construction of the ordinary gauge railway for the connection between Nuoro and its territory with the existing section. This is the fundamental point of the request sent by the mayor of the capital of Barbagia, Andrea Soddu , to the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Vice President of the Council, Antonio Tajani, to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, to the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and to the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso.
The mayor calls for the attention of the national executive in relation to the "heartfelt problem of a city which appears to be the only provincial capital in Italy not yet served by a railway of the Italian railway network" and in which "the only This stretch of railway road is a narrow-gauge regional line that dates back to the end of the 19th century, which has unsustainable journey times and is unsuitable for the transport of goods and passengers».
«For decades - reads the letter sent by Soddu - the territory has been asking for the construction of a section that connects Nuoro with the existing network in order to optimize internal connections and with the ports and airports present in Sardinia. An essential intervention that would open up the inhabitants and productive activities of central Sardinia to the rest of the world , an exceptional opportunity to reverse the economic curve and, consequently, also the demographic one».
After the recent approval by the Transport Commission of the Chamber, with the approval of the Government, of the agenda for the transfer of the Nuoro Macomer line to Rfi (a preparatory and necessary step for the construction of the new section), the mayor asks "that we can include the project, evaluated together with experts and professors from the University of Cagliari in the Major Works Plan that the European Commission wanted to reopen in the financial chapter of large connection networks (as was done for the Messina Bridge which would connect the Northern corridor / South Europe)".
So he appeals to the Government "to face this challenge of relaunching a territory , aware that the interest recently shown and the examination of the planning sheet can only lead to a solution to the problem and further wealth for our community, part part of Europe".
