The panel of judges of the Juvenile Court of Sassari, presided over by Guido Vecchione, sentenced Emanuele Sircana, the 21-year-old from Porto Torres, to 17 years in prison . He was arrested on June 4, 2025 , on charges of voluntary manslaughter. The mitigating circumstances outweighed the cruelty.
The victim was Mario Sedda, the 39-year-old fellow citizen killed on the night between March 29 and 30, 2021, in the gardens of Via Sassari, at the entrance to the city, where his body was found with a ceramic knife blade stuck in his cheekbone.
The defendant, who was a minor at the time of the crime, was also present at the trial. Sedda's body was found behind a bush on April 1st five years ago, approximately 48 hours after the murder. Her body bore signs of torture, involving kicks, punches, and stones, while she was unconscious due to alcohol consumption and the brutal attack.
Sircana has always maintained his innocence , reiterating his previous claims in spontaneous statements given early in the trial and admitting to having been at the crime scene with Sedda and another person. He also admitted to having witnessed an argument between the victim and the other young man present, from whom he allegedly snatched a knife and threw it away.
The Sedda family's lawyers, Pietro Diaz and Costantino Biello, were present in the courtroom.
