The countdown has begun. On Tuesday, the redevelopment project of Piazza Matteotti and part of Via Roma, in Cagliari , will land in the City Council for the definitive go-ahead. Then it will be time for the tender: publication in two weeks, assignment of construction sites by the end of the year. The workers could start working as early as January, at least those are the plans.

The promenade will be transformed into a tree-lined avenue (the project signed by Stefano Boeri includes over 200 plants) with a large walk of about 600 meters from Piazza Matteotti to Piazza Deffenu.

Piazza Matteotti will change its face: the tourist information point owned by the metropolitan city will be demolished (tomorrow it will be sold to the Municipality, at the symbolic price of one euro) and the entire harbor front will be affected by the works for 14 months.

Waiting for the debate in the classroom, the first sparks have already been seen on social networks: "It is one of the most important transformational interventions in our city, and it needs extensive discussion and sharing", attacks the municipal councilor of the Democratic Party Matteo Lecis Cocco Ortu, who complains about the lack of "a public debate led by the municipal administration".

But the mayor Paolo Truzzu explains: "These are specious controversies, the times are dictated by the competition and by the need not to lose funding".
