New butcheries available to griffons in Sardinia. After the green light from the regional departments of the Environment and Health, in addition to those already activated within the zootechnical farms of the Natura 2000 sites (between Bosa and Campeda), other butchers may be built in the north-east of the island . , in the Nuorese area and in the eastern and western quadrants of the southern area.

All thanks to the “ Life Safe For Vultures ” project. Sardinia is one of the few territories in Europe to have undertaken this path within the conservation processes of vultures, and the circumstance was highlighted during the first European Conference on the supplementary feeding of vulturids which took place in Alghero , at presence of experts from all over Europe.

As explained by Fiammetta Berlinguer, professor of the veterinary medicine department of the University of Sassari and scientific manager of the project, "from the comparison with many of the leading national and international experts, the importance of the farm meat sheds as a measure of conservation of the species in all situations in which there is a food shortage. The advantage is mutual, because the farm meat kilns scattered throughout the territory ensure food for the griffons and respect their ethology, but at the same time these vultures perform a service for humans, allowing breeders to save on the costs of disposing of animal carcasses, which are considered special waste ".

Other Italian and European regions are now looking to the Sardinian model.
