From nowhere appears a timeless villa, covered with marbles from all over the world. It is located at the entrance to Mores, half an hour from Sassari, and is a singular synthesis of art with roots that draw from the Middle East, Greece and Renaissance canons.
The fruit of 20 years of work by Peppino Dore, 86 years old, a former baker and craftsman driven by a mission, that of giving life to the monumental Villa Dore.
"Since I was a child I wanted to create this work - he explains - I almost succeeded and I have to thank Him."
Meaning God, whom he occasionally calls “General Director”. But beyond divine inspiration, one is impressed by Dore’s determination to lay out the villa with thousands of tiny pieces of marble, elaborate fragments from Portugal, Egypt, Africa and the Rocky Mountains in the United States. He did it meticulously for dozens of meters in every direction, among lions, heads of pharaohs, Christian votive offerings, neoclassical fountains, Latin inscriptions.
"I am self-taught," he declares. "Certain charisms are born, and those who can grant them." His work has also attracted interest in England, and a famous magazine, The World of Interiors, has dedicated ample space to him. Starting from that first illumination: "When I came here I said to myself: my dream will come true here."
A goal that is missing a piece. "The chapel, which I promised to the "General Director" and I hope that He will leave me on this earth to finish it." The plans are already ready, the marble as well as the will. And from many places, carved on the walls, appears the motto "Domine, diretti nos", Lord, guide us, an appeal renewed every day.
