From north to south of the island , Sardinia's prisons are living in constant emergency : attacks on officers on duty are countless, personnel forced to work exhausting shifts to make up for staff shortages and services to be reorganised.

On the day when prison police officers demonstrated in Sassari in front of the prefecture to denounce the critical issues of the Bancali prison system, news arrived of a new attack in the Massama prison in Oristano, where a prisoner attempted to attack a policeman threatening him then repeatedly killing him and spitting in his face .

The intervention of other officers was immediate, who accompanied the prisoner back to his room to avoid worse consequences.

The attacked policeman , visibly shaken, was then accompanied to the infirmary where the doctor also prescribed checks to exclude the contagion of diseases , considering that the prisoner's saliva reached the inside of the man's mouth.

«The prison of Oristano is now out of control - the words of the general secretary of the UIL of the Penitentiary Police for Sardinia, Michele Cireddu - the attacks against the policemen follow one another at a dizzying pace. The episode that happened today is literally unworthy». "All of this - he continues - continues to happen in the indifference of an administrator unable to implement concrete interventions to safeguard the safety of the policemen, literally left in jeopardy".

«The policemen are on their last legs almost everywhere – adds Cireddu – and the prison police staff of Oristano are going through one of the darkest periods since the Institute was activated. We do not understand the meaning of the recent inspection by the Department if concrete interventions have not followed. Without urgent initiatives it is not difficult to foresee that the situation is destined to precipitate irreversibly".

The union then expressed its solidarity and closeness to the agent attacked for what happened.
