« That crack in the attic, which had grown over time, had already been worrying us for a few days. We have filed several complaints over the years, but have received no response." Thus the daughter of Margherita Piga, the 69-year-old widow from Porto Torres who miraculously escaped the collapse of part of the ceiling , in the apartment on the first floor of the building, at number 2 of via Trieste. A complex of three three-storey buildings, owned by the Regional Housing Agency, built in the 1950s in front of the commercial port of Porto Torres.

The accident occurred at 11.30, when the woman, having returned home after doing the shopping, was preparing to prepare lunch. Suddenly the ceiling gives way and a portion collapses on his head. However, he manages to alert his daughter, with whom he shares the house. Despair and panic take over. The girl asks for medical ambulance intervention. The shocked woman has a deep wound on her head and some abrasions. The 118 health workers transfer the pensioner to the civil hospital in Sassari.

Another near-tragedy, similar to the one in via Grazia Deledda, in August 2022. The houses are always residential buildings owned by Area. Properties with obvious structural problems that often require the intervention of the fire brigade. This time the long intervention of the 115 teams ended with the declaration of unusability of the kitchen and bathroom rooms. From initial checks it is hypothesized that the collapse was caused by water infiltration which swelled the irons of the attic, causing the collapse of enormous portions of plaster. In the adjacent buildings the problems are the same. Dilapidated facades, collapse of concrete parts of terraces and cornices, internal infiltrations that make the serenity of those who live there impossible.

"I live on the third floor of the adjacent building, and for some time I have had a hole in the kitchen attic, with infiltrations of smelly water and pigeons that prevent us from sleeping", complains an 81-year-old tenant. The Local Police coordinated by Commander Katia Onida was also on site and requested the intervention of the Area technicians. Once on site they checked the conditions of the building. They ensured the safety of the attic to ensure the usability of the apartment and allow the two women to return. «Area had already intervened to shore up one of the buildings that had presented the same problem last May, when an order from the mayor declared the apartment on the first floor unusable – explains Francesco Carta, condominium administrator in via Trieste - and the next week we had planned another inspection with the engineers of the regional Agency, which is allocating resources to be able to intervene for the reconstruction of the parts of the facade and for the checks of the floors in the individual homes".
