Nighttime rampages of scooters and motorcycles at high speed, in the center and on the outskirts, a phenomenon that in Porto Torres is creating a climate of exasperation and fear for public peace and safety.
A veritable plague, with sudden revving and wheelies from exhausted motorcycles, from midnight until four in the morning, with gatherings and noise outside homes making the situation unbearable for residents. A summer nightmare, with groups of young people and very young people pouring into the streets, transforming neighborhoods into racetracks, with rampages, noise, and complete disregard for the rules. The hot spots where moped rodeos are concentrated are Viale Delle Vigne, Via Tramontana, and the central Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
"In the area of Via della Libertà and Via Tramontana, as well as along the coastal road, there's a constant coming and going of motorbikes. It's impossible to keep the windows open; we're forced to barricade ourselves indoors with the air conditioning on, which isn't exactly ideal. I must say that usually, once the Carabinieri are called, these incidents stop, but it's always around midnight," complain local residents. The motorbikes also roam in the dead of night along Via Sassari and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, in the heart of the city, where they speed by at high speeds, ignoring the inconvenience they cause to residents. Dozens of reports reach the Carabinieri headquarters. "I don't really know what can be done, but the fact that after we call the police, where I went to report the now unsustainable situation, it suddenly ends, makes me think that some prevention could be done, without waiting for the midnight frenzy," explains a resident of Zone 167 who has long been calling for a stop to what has become a veritable urban plague.
