Not only a tough battle to dismantle the alleged needs that convinced the investigating judge Michele Contini to order precautionary custody in prison, but also an all-out challenge to the serious indications of guilt and above all to the existence of the aggravating mafia crime, a crime which led 13 trade unionists in prison and another 18 under house arrest in the "Monte Nuovo" operation of the Carabinieri's ROS and the district anti-mafia directorate.

The defense lawyers of the former regional councilor Gabriella Murgia and the anesthetist Tomaso Cocco discussed their respective appeals this morning before the Cagliari Review Court, presided over by judge Lucia Perra and supported by colleagues Loche and Rosetti. Escorted by penitentiary police officers, the former councilor arrived in the courtroom first, defended by the lawyers Enrico Meloni and Carlo Figus, then the doctor entered assisted by the lawyers Rosaria Manconi and Herika Dessì.

Over three hours of battle with the defenses who contested the crucial point of the investigation: the existence of a mafia-type association that used intimidation to obtain favors and tie together part of politics, white collar workers and alleged exponents of crime barbaricin. The Freedom Court will have to rule by October 19th, but if it were to accept the release request presented by the defense lawyers, the decision could arrive as early as tonight or tomorrow.
