A composed and silent coming and going this morning at Giuseppe Marras' funeral home in the council chamber of the Municipality of Monserrato, in Piazza Maria Vergine.
Several people, especially the older ones who knew him, wanted to pay homage to the man who was the first mayor of the city immediately after the conquest of independence from Cagliari in 1991.
In the front row are his wife Rita, his daughter Caterina, his sister Giovanna and the president of the municipal council Piergiorgio Massidda, who remembers him thus: «I had the pleasure of being his fellow councilor between 2005 and 2011. He was always attentive to needs of the people, he loved Monserrato».
Marras passed away yesterday morning after a long illness. He was 76 years old.
He was elected first citizen in the ranks of the Christian Democrats in 1992, he held the position until 1994. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 pm in the parish of the Most Holy Redeemer.
