The people who carried out the so-called " mirror scam " in Ogliastra were recognized by the victims themselves. The officers of the Tortolì police station reported a man and a woman at large.

A couple of German tourists had told the officers what had happened : their car had been hit by a stone , then they had been forced to stop. The criminals had shown them the broken side rear-view mirror, inducing the foreigners to pay the damages - 400 euros - to avoid waiting for the insurance.

The police investigations made it possible to trace the identity of the man and the woman, who were recognized by the tourists when they saw the photo album. Both Sicilian, and already known to the police, they would have implemented the same scam in various locations on the peninsula and in Sardinia.
