An informal but warm gathering to express gratitude to those who serve the community daily. Quartu Mayor Graziano Milia, in the presence of the directly responsible Carabinieri officers, today received the Carabinieri patrol boat crew who recently took part in the timely rescue operation at Poetto Beach in Quartu.
The Carabinieri crew responded last week to a car accident involving a young man at the roundabout between Lungomare del Golfo and Viale Colombo. After colliding with the palm trees in the center of the intersection, the man ran away from the vehicle and jumped into the sea, at the mercy of the waves.
The Carabinieri officers promptly rushed into the water to reach him and rescue him, then handing him over to paramedics for treatment due to the onset of hypothermia.
At the institutional headquarters of the former Capuchin Convent, the mayor met today with the entire team of Carabinieri who distinguished themselves in the action: Lieutenant Federico Fillini, Commander of the Cagliari Diving Unit, Chief Marshal Fedele Serio, Chief Brigadier Claudio Loi and Chief Brigadier Roberto Longoni, officers of the Cagliari Motor Patrol Unit.
A handshake and a special thank you for their work was followed by the presentation of the pin of the Four Moors, the symbol of Sardinia, surrounded by green, which, together with the white background, reflects the colors of the city of Quartu.
"This providential intervention was only possible thanks to the great sensitivity and sense of duty of these men," Milia commented. "For our community, and beyond, the Carabinieri are an important point of reference, but also a support in difficult situations. What happened at Poetto is a concrete demonstration of how the spirit of service inherent in law enforcement is admirable and ensures constant protection for the area."
