The medium voltage pylons collapse and the cables invade the roadway.

It happened last Saturday, shortly after 10am in Santa Maria Coghinas, in the hamlet of Longareddu where the tragedy came close. Three old medium voltage power line poles (15,000 Volt) gave way due to the strong wind, alarming the entire community.

Some cables ended up near the accommodation and on the roofs of the Montiruju hotel restaurant, others on the road at eye level , obstructing the passage of motorists and creating serious dangers to people's safety.

A serious emergency situation which called the Carabinieri of the Valledoria company and the agents of the Local Police of Santa Maria Coghinas to the site for an urgent safety intervention. With the collapse of the first pole, rotten at the root, the second and third ones also fell due to a domino effect. The local police supported the carabinieri by regulating the traffic, while the E-Distribuzione company took steps to cut the cables and restore the safety situation. The roadway was freed from cables to avoid further dangers. The UGL chemical-energy regional secretary, Franco Peana, spoke on the case and underlined Enel's responsibilities.

«Investments in infrastructure and systems are needed, but also maintenance and personnel are urgently needed to guarantee service to citizens who, as in recent weeks, have experienced blackouts. In some cases the network is 40 years old. In the case of Santa Maria Coghinas there was a risk for people's safety, this time it was truly fortunate." Ugl Chimici-Energia has opened a dispute and announced a strike against E-Distribuzione regarding the lack of staff, the organizational deficit and the savings on maintenance.
