Hundreds of citizens, in particular pensioners and in any case families or people on low income, are forced to give up treatment. It is the cry of alarm that is launched from Marghine, where the situation, also recently denounced by the health protection committee that operates in the area, appears dramatic.

The citizens of the area continue to distance themselves from the ASL, in particular for specialist visits and exams. Those who can afford it turn to private healthcare facilities. The others, however, give up treatment.

The serious situation was denounced by a municipal administrator, Teresa Loriga, councilor for social policies of Bortigali, with responsibility for healthcare. «Unfortunately the situation appears truly dramatic», says the administrator, «we fight this battle on the front line, but often our reasons, which are those of the citizens, are not listened to. There is a strong increase in people who resort to private care and above all give up treatment. The consequences are disastrous. Booking at the Cup is impossible. The case of Macomer, which is no longer district, but regional: people from other local health authorities also access it, coming from other parts of the island, but leaving the territory unprotected."

Even to make a simple visit, continues Loriga, «you have to wait months and often, as happened to a group of diabetics, you cannot find a space on the whole island. It would be appropriate for reservations at the Cup to become a district option again."

According to the councilor «you can't go around half of Sardinia to find a specialist in the public health system. Thus the rights of citizens are undermined. We must not give up, but fight to enforce the right to treatment, especially to accommodate people on low incomes."
