Fish tourism hasn't taken off, a bridge endangers fishermen, and walls are falling apart. This is why when it rains, all the debris ends up in the pond , causing all the inconvenience that entails. The fishermen of Marceddì are pointing the finger at the Municipality of Terralba . The board of directors met to discuss the lack of local politics and the resulting problems, which, according to the fishermen, must be resolved as soon as possible.
"The municipality is making promises and hopes it can't keep," commented Antonio Loi, president of the Fishing Consortium. "It's sending an entire sector into agony." Among the various issues discussed was the problem of fish tourism, which never took off in Marceddì. "It was supposed to be built on the premises of the third fishpond," Loi explained, "but due to land expropriation issues, we were never able to get the business up and running. Yet it would be a significant source of income for us, bringing prestige to the entire area."
Loi then points to the bridge connecting the seaside village of Marceddì to the Costa Verde , where the second renovation project is underway. "Motor safety is a plus, but this stretch of road isn't bringing any benefits to us fishermen —quite the opposite. There are obvious dangers beneath the infrastructure. Fishermen risk injury. Why can't they intervene, given the large amounts of funding from the Region? Many interventions have only been promised."
Loi recalls the now-destroyed gates that allow debris to enter the San Giovanni pond: "Ten months after taking charge of the environmental remediation work," Loi explains, "not a single day of work has been completed. I urge the administrators to intervene immediately. And if politicians can't assert their authority, then another agency needs to take charge."
Public Works Councilor Andrea Grussu : "Work on the bridge is proceeding without interruption, including the rehabilitation of the section used by fishermen. The first €1 million lot included the rehabilitation of the seawater inlets and the opening of the windows requested by the Fishing Consortium, which will allow for an important hydraulic exchange. The second lot, currently underway, involves the rehabilitation of other pillars and the opening of additional windows. As for the work on the San Giovanni pond, it will begin shortly. The project has already been put out to tender. The timeframe has been extended for several reasons, including requests for sediment analysis by ARPAS."
