Ottana remains the commissioner. The Regional Administrative Court (TAR) has annulled "the decrees appointing the new deputy mayor and the new councilors adopted on June 8th by the newly elected mayor, Franco Saba, under house arrest, "as well as the related acknowledgment adopted by the inaugural meeting of the new City Council on June 25th."
At the heart of the dispute initiated by the Ministry of the Interior against the Nuoro municipality administration were the actions taken by Mayor Saba, who was under house arrest at the time the appointments were signed as part of an investigation by the Nuoro Public Prosecutor's Office into attempted extortion.
During the hearing earlier this week, the judges heard arguments from the State Attorney's Office, which intervened on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior through the Prefecture, which filed the appeal, and from the lawyers of Councilor Marcello Corda, who appeared in opposition and was represented by lawyers Antonello Rossi and Claudio Contu.
The dispute concerns the decrees appointing the deputy mayor and councilors, suspended as a precautionary measure in September, in relation to the alleged violation of the provisions imposed on Saba under house arrest.
The TAR ruled in favor of the Ministry on almost all counts: the request to annul the act validating the elections, adopted by the Council on June 25, was rejected.
