A 48-year-old man from Tula was arrested by the local Carabinieri station for robbery and extortion. The crimes were committed in Rome in 2022, near the Colosseum, where the man was posing as an extra, dressed in a Roman centurion costume, working unlawfully with an accomplice to accost tourists and show them souvenir photos.

Visitors were forced under threat to pay large sums of money, some of which were withdrawn from ATMs where they were escorted to secure the cash.

The 48-year-old was located in Iglesias by the military, in collaboration with colleagues from the local station, inside a local therapeutic community, where he was temporarily staying. The man had previously been reported to the judicial authorities by the Carabinieri of Tula due to several episodes of outbursts, threats against his mother, and acts of self-harm. The arrested man is being held in Uta prison.
