For years in Maracalagonis we have been trying to trace the cause of the miasmas which, especially in summer, create inconvenience for residents in the neighborhoods that develop along the more than one thousand meters of the Cortis river.

Over the last year, inspections have been carried out inside the filled canal without being able to precisely identify the cause of the pollution. Now the ordinance of the mayor Francesca Fadda which also asks for the collaboration of the residents.

Fadda signed an ordinance linked precisely to the «objective difficulty of punctually tracing the source of the wastewater contamination, in consideration of the vastness of the rainwater collection network present in the town, for which checks will soon be planned and carried out and random checks, jointly carried out by staff of Abbanoa SpA (as manager of the water and sewerage network) and staff of the Public Works Office and the Local Police of the Municipality of Maracalagonis, at private homes and artisan businesses and/or commercial establishments located in the town, located in the city streets where there is a rainwater collection network".

The mayor asks citizens «to check their private wastewater discharge systems and pipelines and whether they are regularly connected and connected to the public sewerage network, or whether they are improperly connected to the present rainwater collection system. It also urges the verification of any dysfunctions or malfunctions of its wastewater discharge pipes which could lead to releases or contamination in the rainwater collection system present in the area".

It also calls for "as a matter of urgency to regularize the connection of the wastewater discharges and correctly provide the connection with the public sewerage network, or to restore any malfunctions in the wastewater discharge pipes that could cause leakage or contamination in the soil, subsoil or improper inputs and contamination of the rainwater collection system present in the area (gutters, grates, drains, storm drains)".

Having said all this, Francesca Fadda orders with her ordinance «the citizens residing in the town of Maracalagonis and the owners of artisanal or commercial activities located in the urban perimeter of the Municipality, to ensure, as a matter of urgency:
