An 87-year-old man drowned while swimming in the waters of La Speranza beach in the municipality of Villanova Monteleone. The incident occurred this morning.

The elderly man was swimming a few meters from the shoreline when, probably due to illness, he found himself in difficulty and was unable to turn back.

Medical personnel from the Areus air rescue team arrived on the scene to resuscitate him, but there was nothing they could do.
