Doctor for a day, at 14 years old ("almost 15", as she specifies). A few weeks ago Ludovica opened the Instagram profile of the Cagliari University Hospital and wrote a message: "When I grow up I would like to be a doctor, I have had this passion since I was little and since the road is still long I would like to participate in volunteer activities in the hospital, if possible. I would like to make the patients smile".

It's too early to volunteer in the ward, but her message hasn't gone unnoticed: at Christmas, you know, dreams can come true and the AOU of Cagliari, in agreement with the parents, has organized a special day for a girl with a heart of gold.

So this morning Ludovica, a student at the Liceo Classico al Convitto Nazionale in Cagliari, was a “doctor” for a day. Accompanied by Ferdinando Coghe, acting health director of the University Hospital Trust, she was in the ward at the Duilio Casula Polyclinic: she visited some departments, spoke with the doctors, her future colleagues, the nurses, and the department directors.

"I was impressed," the student said, "it was a beautiful experience that intensified my dream. I understood what my path is. It was a mix of very strong emotions that I will always carry in my heart, I had a great time."

A very young student but with very clear ideas already. «I would simply like to lend a hand», she wrote, «and bring a smile to the patients, in order to already enter (partially) into what is my greatest dream».

Ludovica had the opportunity to explore the healthcare facility of the Aou of Cagliari department by department, to meet the specialists, to share impressions, opinions and reflections on her greatest passion.

A special day for Ludovica. Doctors and all the health workers welcomed the young student with warmth, making her feel – even if only for a few hours – part of the Policlinico staff.
