Loud noise, loud music, and a hail of stones. For residents of Via Azuni, just steps from the center of Porto Torres, the situation has become unbearable. On Saturday night, vandals also targeted the front door of a building, kicking it in by a gang of youths.
"Life here has become impossible, you can't rest," laments Agostino Dessì, a resident in front of the new square on Via Azuni, a space on the corner of Via Petronia, inaugurated a few months ago. The owner of a recently purchased apartment, he filed a complaint with the Carabinieri and the City Council regarding the constant noise, mostly at night, and loud music that exceeds normal levels of tolerability, making it difficult for children and adults to rest and disrupting public peace. Added to this are stones being thrown at the windows and a stoning incident involving teenagers.
The latest incident of vandalism dates back to just last Saturday. "At 9:30 PM, someone rang the doorbell and immediately afterward, a loud bang was heard on the front door, which was kicked in from the outside by someone who left obvious marks before fleeing," Dessì explains. "So I searched the area to try to identify the culprits. I intercepted two witnesses who told me they had seen some young men running away, young men dressed in black and wearing hooded jackets." The same people who were seen in the small square on Via Azuni. "I provided the police with an identikit," the owner adds, "and it seems they've been identified. Two of them, in fact, knocked on the door to apologize, telling me it had been a prank gone wrong." The damage, however, remains, and the residents have lost patience. The area is constantly invaded by young people who, especially on weekends and holidays, use the square to make noise, throw stones, and damage the windows and doors of homes, causing distress among local residents.
