It took off at around 10:50 from Fiumicino Airport and landed at Cagliari before noon on special flight of Ita Airways has brought home the little Mirko , the 10 year old boy of Sestu that for weeks after discharge from the hospital pediatric Baby Jesus, he was stuck in Rome because there is no scheduled flight with the transport service on a stretcher.

The Company had responded to the appeal launched by the child's mother, Elisabetta Mantega, who was desperately looking for an air carrier that was prepared to transport a patient, such as Mirko, unable to board as an ordinary passenger, because he was forced to fly lying on a hospital stretcher with oxygen on board, due to his particular health conditions.

On board the AZ 8901 of ITA Airways, the company explains, there was "all the medical equipment necessary to fly Mirko safely, together with a doctor and a nurse from the Bambino Gesù health team, who will accompany the baby to destination. Doctor and nurse will be brought back to Rome Fiumicino always with a flight operated by Ita Airways ". Accompanying little Mirko was also the company doctor of the carrier, "who oversaw the internal preparation of the flight, in compliance with the health standards linked to the conditions of the pediatric patient".

The little one has been under the care of Baby Jesus for ten years: currently he is tracheostomized and assisted by a ventilator, he must be followed 24 hours a day, but about a month ago he received the ok to discharge and return home. The mother immediately took steps to make the child spend Christmas holidays with the family, only to discover that the Volotea flights are not equipped. Too long the time to solve the problem, despite the low cost has made itself available to do so. The solution then came thanks to the collaboration between the Region, Enac and Ita Airways.

"Finally home. Then we'll see if, as the Region announced, the problem will be solved forever", says mother Elisabetta. Satisfaction also from Ita Airways: "Our company does not operate in Sardinia, because it is covered by territorial continuity, but thanks to the teamwork between our management, the Sardinia Region and ENAC, it was possible to satisfy the desire of a mother, and finally bring Mirko back home ".
