New extensions for the light rail network in Cagliari. The regional council - on the proposal of the councilor for transport, Giorgio Todde - approved two resolutions in the last session with which it adds a further section, that from Marina Piccola to the Marino hospital, along the Poetto route, starting the works planning of the route that will connect the city hospitals.

"It is an important new step in the realization of a fundamental work for Cagliari and for the whole vast area - comments the president of the Region, Christian Solinas - part of a project that we are carrying out to create an increasingly integrated public transport system based on light mobility. Connecting all Cagliari hospitals means offering modern and efficient services, making healthcare facilities more accessible and at the same time favoring the reduction of vehicular traffic and a lower environmental impact ".

In detail, with the first resolution, the remaining resources after the rescheduling of the funding assigned to the "director Quartu" were allocated to the construction of the section that goes from Marina Piccola to the new Marino hospital (amount: 24 million and 500 thousand euros). Therefore, ARST was given a mandate to design the new section, identifying its extension according to the available resources.

With the second resolution, on the other hand, the council mandated ARST to complete the design of the "hospital director" by defining the length of the section and the reliable estimate of the financing necessary for the construction of the work.

"The need to connect the Cagliari hospitals (Oncologico, Microcitemico and Brotzu) with the metrotranviaria network (Oncologico, Microcitemico and Brotzu) to allow better access to health services by citizens of the metropolitan area and at the same time contribute to decongest the viability of private vehicle traffic ".
