Another important element has been added in La Maddalena to what the mayor, Fabio Lai, considers "the axis of culture" which sees in Piazza Umberto I, right on the axis, a bronze lion 2 meters high, placed on a granite base of the same height (recently inaugurated) the restored bronze bust of Anita Garibaldi and the Palco della Musica (late 19th century), inaugurated yesterday after careful restoration.

The site also sees the monument, dear to the memory of most, which commemorates the Italian military personnel who died in the attack on Nassiriyah. And to keep everything linked by a common thread, the mayor himself announced some time ago and confirmed yesterday that in September the light metal structure will be definitively dismantled, supported by thirteen cylindrical columns in Sardinian granite built in that square, under the bronze bust of Anita Garibaldi in 2005.

Returning to the inauguration of the restored Palco della Musica, built at the end of the 19th century, the event saw the presence of the mayor who cut the tricolor ribbon, the councilor for public works, Federica Porcu, who supervised the restoration, other civil and military authorities, the parish priest who blessed the work and two bands, the Giuseppe Garibaldi of La Maddalena and the Felicino Mibelli of Olbia. The building, which represents an important space close to Piazza Umberto I, is in fact the center of the symmetry defined by the buildings of the Navy which range from the former Palazzo della Difesa to the Palazzine Ufficiali, to the headquarters of the Admiralty. Buildings built between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, in the Umbertine style, of appreciable architectural value.

In the past, memorable concerts were held at the Palco della Musica, played by both military and civilian bands, starting with the legendary Mandalari, going back a long way. In more recent decades, other bands have also played there, from San Domenico Savio to Giuseppe Garibaldi to the City of La Maddalena. And the now forgotten, at least in the archipelago, the Festa dell'Unità and Festa dell'Avanti took place on the stage of the music. In more recent times, under that stage and in the adjacent spaces, large pancakes have been organized on the occasion of the Maddalena carnivals as well as other gastronomic and entertainment events by the patronal committees.
