Back to kill and devastate bad weather in Sardinia. The "water bombs" that hit in the last few hours, especially in the south of the island and in the Sulcis area, caused a victim - an 81-year-old from Sant'Anna Arresi -, landslides, floods and very heavy inconveniences.
And it doesn't seem over yet: an orange alert is also scheduled for today. However, the color of the risk warning issued previously by the Civil Protection is a source of controversy. The first alert was in fact coded as yellow, ordinary, then corrected after it was realized that the extent of the wave of bad weather would be much more powerful than expected.
In this regard, Antonio Belloi, head of the regional civil protection, explained: “We are sent data on precipitation forecasts. Based on these numbers, we issue notices. For yesterday, 60 mm of rain were assumed, then there was a worsening ".
In Cagliari alone, for example, 107 millimeters of rain fell (in 2008, the year of the most tragic flood, it reached 112).
Meanwhile, while the damage count continues and while the closure of schools, parks, municipal sports facilities, libraries and museums in Cagliari, there are messages of proximity to the island still ravaged by rain. Like that of Elisabetta Casellati, president of the Senate, who on Twitter addressed “a thought to Sardinia for the violent storm that caused a victim and serious inconvenience. Thanks to the Police and the Fire Brigade who, as always, are working tirelessly to help the population ".
