Malicious intent may have been behind the devastating fire that burned down around 200 hectares of forest between Arzana and Elini last Friday , threatening homes and forcing the evacuation of around a hundred people, four of whom ended up in hospital.

The firefighting operations were completed—which required the deployment of several aircraft, including Canadairs, to support the ground crews—and while the damage assessment is still ongoing, the Lanusei Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation. Environmental disaster is the alleged crime under investigation.

Meanwhile, regional Environment Councilor Rosanna Laconi is expected to visit the area affected by the fire today to discuss the initial measures needed to help the community.
