He was supposed to testify today in the fourth trial underway before the Court of Assizes of Sassari , but Titti Pinna did not appear in court . The businessman from Bonorva, kidnapped in his company on September 19, 2006 and managed to free himself on May 28, 2007, was expected to testify in the proceedings in which the only defendant is the building contractor Antonio Michele Piredda, 58, from Nulvi . According to the Cagliari District Anti-Mafia Directorate, Piredda played an active role in various phases of the kidnapping, in particular by having made available a van used by the kidnappers.
The victim, however, did not appear in court , presenting a justification explaining the impossibility of responding to the summons, due to serious family problems. The hearing continued with the depositions of four witnesses, carabinieri who at the time participated in the investigations thanks to which Salvatore Atzas, Giovanni Maria Manca, Antonio Faedda, and the brothers Giovanni and Francesca Sanna were definitively convicted in three previous trials. In the courtroom there was a fierce clash between the lawyer, Antonella Cuccureddu, who defends Piredda, the prosecutor Gilberto Ganassi and the president of the Court, Giancosimo Mura, on the admissibility of the trial documents and on a video that reconstructs the development of the investigations, shown today in the hearing and illustrated by the colonel of the RIS of Cagliari, Marco Palanca.
Cuccureddu's numerous exceptions and objections were firmly rejected by the president. The trial will continue with the hearing of other witnesses, including Titti Pinna.
