He was one of the four Sardinian boys competing in the coveted Herculaneum event. In the end Francesco Secci managed to obtain second place at the Italian Olympics, in the junior category, in that event now in its 13th edition and organized by the Ministry of Education. The student of the Scientific and Linguistic High School Enrico Fermi of Nuoro, second class C, achieved the important goal thanks to an excellent test carried out remotely.

Complex test

He was brilliantly surpassed by that boy who fills his Italian teacher, Luisa Sirigu, with pride every day. Francesco Secci attempted a task divided into three tests: a summary, accompanied by a questionnaire, on a Focus article focused on the educational usefulness of recreation; the development of an informative and functional text based on two photos by Dorothea Lange on emigration to the United States; a creative text on an anachronistic reportage regarding Marco Polo's return to Venice. «The scientific high school has the advantage of training students in a balanced way in both scientific and humanistic subjects, as demonstrated by the second place in the national competition of the "Italian championships" - says the director of the Nuoro school, Mariantonietta Ferrante -. I am proud of the students' results and the teachers' work."

The student

Francesco Secci does not hide his joy. At the same time, he welcomes the result with humility and reveals his passions: «I dream of achieving success as a singer and guitarist, of being able to make a living from music together with my band», he says. And on his relationship with writing, he candidly admits: «I have never really appreciated writing, especially because of the constant criticism that was directed at me, as a child, about my handwriting. I was very perfectionist and not very self-deprecating, thank goodness I've changed."

Deep-rooted tradition

Not just Francesco Secci's exploit. The Barbagia school, the most popular in the capital, has always had a fruitful relationship with the Italian Olympics. In 2013, student Alessandro Bullitta also achieved second place in the final race.
