The red bench removed from Piazza San Giuseppe by decision of the Municipality of Isili, after having been installed by a citizen, has had its place of honor in front of the Spi Cgil headquarters in via Dante since this morning.

«A beautiful red patch to remind everyone of what each of us can do, in our daily lives, against violence against women», said the secretary of the Metropolitan Chamber of Labor CGIL, Simona Fanzecco, underlining that « the bench is a symbol , exposing it means memory and respect for the victims as well as commitment to ensuring that the patriarchal culture which unfortunately still permeates our society is overcome."

The news of the removal had given rise to a controversy in the town but the mayor Luca Pilia is keen to point out : «There was no removal: simply the councilor for Social Services considered that the bench had been placed in an inappropriate position and took it inside the library", explained the mayor, "it certainly wasn't

treaty of little sensitivity on the topic, on which we have been engaged for some time and today we participated in a meeting to set up a help desk to help women victims of violence".

Meanwhile today during the initiative organized by the Cgil of Cagliari together with the territorial Spi Cgil, who wanted to involve the students of the Gino Zappa technical commercial institute and the Pitagora scientific high school.

Secretary Fanzecco addressed in particular the scholastic institutions, but also young people to keep their guard up, to underline «the fundamental role of education in building a culture based on the values of freedom, self-determination, the achievement of a real equality between genders".

The union also wanted to give dignity and recognition to the gesture of Giuseppe Orgiu, a committed citizen who, not surprisingly, had wanted to paint that bench of his together with his grandchildren. Beyond the controversy following the removal of the bench, for the CGIL «that gesture, that sensitivity, could not fall on deaf ears. That's why that bench is in front of the headquarters today."
