The activities of a coffee roasting plant in the province of Sassari and of an agritourism in the Oristano area were suspended after checks carried out by the carabinieri of the Anti-adulteration and health unit of Sassari, in collaboration with personnel from the competent local health authorities

In the first operation, non-compliance was found in the risk management procedures attributable to the coffee processing activity, referring to the transformation process (such as the caramelisation of the sugars and the carbonisation of the cellulose) which give the bean its typical colour, as well as to the formation of volatile compounds (which give it the typical aroma of roasted coffee).

Deficiencies were also noted in the safety certifications relating to the fume emission system and the underground fuel tank.

Following the inspection, administrative fines were imposed on the owner for an amount of approximately 2 thousand euros and the Health Authority ordered the immediate closure of the coffee processing activity until the resolution of the irregularities found.

As far as the investigations at the agritourism in the province of Oristano are concerned, serious hygienic-sanitary and structural criticalities emerged both in the premises and in the equipment used for processing and storing food, as well as in the methods of conservation and traceability of the products, predominantly of animal origin (pigmeat, sheepmeat and dairy products) for which the company managers have not been able to demonstrate the origin or provenance.

Approximately 700 kg of food and 650 liters of oil ended up under seizure , also recognizing the serious risk for food safety and consumer health due to the water supply, resulting exclusively from aqueduct for agricultural use, whose waters were chemical, physical and biological characteristics such as to be considered drinkable.

Following the check, the owner was challenged with administrative fines for an amount of around 4,500 euros and the Health Authority ordered the immediate closure of the business .
