Inmate dies in Bancali; prosecutor's office opens investigation

An investigation has been opened into the death of a young foreign inmate at Bancali. The Public Prosecutor's Office, led by Damiano Rossi, is seeking to clarify the circumstances surrounding the Tunisian man's death, which occurred on July 16th at the Sassari facility.

The non-EU citizen, who was held in the section for ordinary prisoners along with other Africans, was found lifeless in his cell, perhaps in the bathroom.

An autopsy was performed on the man's body in recent days by Dr. Matilde Ruju, commissioned by the magistrate. The results have not yet been released.
