In Italy the number of flu-like and flu -like syndromes is decreasing. In the past week, just under 830 thousand Italians were infected, almost 170 thousand fewer than 7 days earlier. A trend that however does not embrace Sardinia . In fact, the Island is second among the Regions in which the intensity of the flu remains particularly high , with 18.98 cases per thousand. In first place the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (20.81 cases per thousand), in third place the Marche (18.63) and Abruzzo (18.13).

These are the salient data from the latest RespiVirNet surveillance bulletins from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità published today. «The data this week confirm the downward trend for flu-like syndromes and for all respiratory viruses, although it must be underlined that circulation still remains sustained and in some regions the incidence is still at high intensity levels» , underlines Anna Teresa Palamara , who directs the Infectious Diseases department of the ISS.

" All recommendations therefore remain valid, especially for the most fragile people, starting with vaccinations ", concludes Palamara. In detail, in the second week of 2024 the incidence of flu-like syndromes stood at 14.1 cases per thousand inhabitants, compared to 17.1 in the previous week. The decline affects all age groups, especially children under 5 who remain the most affected with 31.7 cases per thousand.
