From January 1st to December 31st 2021, 35 thousand people checked and 27,322 infringements of the Highway Code contested by the Traffic Police in Sardinia.

According to the report for the past year, 4,997 violations of speeding were found, driving licenses withdrawn were 2,115 and vehicle registration papers 1,250. While the points of the license deducted were 59,718.

There were 14,338 controlled drivers with breathalyzers and precursors, of which 661 were sanctioned for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 17 were reported for driving under the influence of drugs.

As for accidents, if in 2019, pre-pandemic year, there were 839, of which 20 fatal and 410 accidents with injuries with 694 people injured, in 2021 15 fatal accidents with 16 victims and 367 accidents with injuries were recorded with 489 people injured.

As regards the professional transport sector, "168 policemen were employed, who checked 1,044 heavy vehicles, of which 20 were foreign nationals, ascertaining 325 offenses and withdrawing 2 driving licenses and 5 registration papers". Furthermore, “the investigative activity was mainly aimed at combating criminal phenomena linked to the illicit traffic of vehicles and resulted in 6 referrals to the judicial authority. In fact, following these activities, 7 vehicles subject to recycling were seized. There were 61 checks on public businesses and resulted in the detection of 12 infringements ".

On the prevention front, “despite the pandemic, the men and women of the Traffic Police have spared no effort to reach the ambitious goal of eliminating the number of road deaths. All road users, from pedestrians to scooter drivers and road hauliers, must be aware that only with correct conduct can their lives and that of others be safeguarded ".
