Temperatures remain high in Sardinia, which is why the fire campaign will be extended .

This was announced by the Civil Protection who, at the request of the commander of the Forestry Corps, "in consideration of the seasonal weather trend", gave the ok to the extension.

The end of the “high forest fire hazard” period, which was initially set for October 31st, has been postponed to Monday November 7th . And it could continue further if this anomalous heat wave that is also bringing with it a long period of drought were not to end.

Another consequence of the extension: until 7 November, farmers will be able to burn stubble, crop residues, pastures or unproductive agricultural land only according to the rules laid down by the fire prevention regulations.

This year, according to the Region, the fires have decreased, from 3,190 in 2021 to 2,634 in 2022. Not even a thousand hectares of ash forest, last year they were over 6 thousand . And the wooded area was also damaged in the middle of last year.

“Less damage, but still too much”, underlines President Christian Solinas . “ Every plant that burns is a piece of Sardinia that goes away to never return , a piece of our nature that we lose, with all that it represents in material and immaterial terms. We still have in mind the apocalyptic images of the Montiferru fire in 2021: a tragedy whose echo can still be heard today ”.
