Not only the new peak recorded yesterday with 102 infections, Gimbe monitoring arrives to certify the worsening of the epidemiological situation in Sardinia.

In the week between 3 and 9 November, the currently positive cases per 100 thousand inhabitants are 96, in the previous period they were 84.

Weekly infections increased by 68.1%, a slight decrease compared to + 71.5% at the end of October. Sassari is the province with the highest incidence, 39 cases per week per 100 thousand inhabitants, followed by Nuoro (38) and Oristano (34). It is better in Cagliari (11) and in Southern Sardinia (9).

The situation in hospitals is completely under control, only 3% of beds in the medical area and in intensive care are occupied.

In short, it is not so much the numbers that are worrying, but the trend, which if confirmed in the coming weeks could make the situation worse.

On the island, 77.8% of the population has completed the vaccination cycle, compared to an Italian average of 76.4%. 2.3% (2.6 in Italy) are vaccinated with the first dose.

According to the government report, in absolute terms, the people vaccinated on the island are 1,243,560 (1,193,583 with double doses and 49,977 single doses, an average of 1,217 per day). On the day of November 10 alone, 1,309 doses were administered, of which 430 first doses.

On the other hand, there are almost 4 thousand third doses. In this case, according to Gimbe, the vaccination coverage rate with the booster dose is 33.5%, while that with the additional dose is 65.2%.

IN ITALY - In Italy + 37.7% of new cases per week, + 14.8% of hospitalizations in the media area and + 9.4% in intensive care.

"For the third consecutive week - declares Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation - an increase in new weekly cases is confirmed and a daily average more than doubled in less than a month, from 2,456 on 15 October to 5,870 on 9 November".

Infections are on the rise in all Italian regions, the increase goes from 12.7% in Tuscany to 75.3% in the province of Bolzano.

In 66 provinces the incidence exceeds 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, in Friuli, Lazio and Veneto all provinces exceed this threshold. On the other hand, there are 3 provinces where 150 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants are exceeded: Trieste (479), Bolzano (260) and Gorizia (221).

"These are numbers - continues Cartabellotta - that should induce local administrators to consider restrictions on a municipal or provincial basis, to prevent the spread of the infection from dragging the entire region into the yellow zone".

Admissions are also growing, although at the national level the rate remains low (6% in the average area, 5% in intensive care).

No Region exceeds the threshold of 15% for the medical area, while Friuli-Venezia Giulia (11%) and Marche (11%) exceed that of 10% for the critical area.

VACCINES - With fewer and fewer people to vaccinate, the first doses collapse (-75% in three weeks). There are still many, too many, over 50s still not vaccinated: they are 2.7 million.

After touching 440,000 in the week of 11-17 October, in three weeks the number of new vaccinates fell to 108,497 in the week of November 1-7. Of these, 72.2% are people of working age.

Gimbe calls for "a change of gear to contain the fourth wave".
