The Municipality of Dolianova will name a square after Francesco Deias, the carabiniere who died at the age of just 35 during a service operation in 2008. This was decided unanimously by the municipal council which sent the request to the Prefect of Cagliari who is responsible the final decision, having heard the opinion of the Deputation of Homeland History.

Francesco Deias, originally from Assolo, had been in service in the Dolianova company for a few months when on 23 May 2008 he was sent from the operations center on 131, near the crossroads for San Sperate, to rescue a woman who was involved in a road accident. His car, after overturning, ended up in the fast lane.

Deias managed to get the woman out of the cockpit and put her in safety. While the patrol was waiting for an ambulance, the policeman was hit by another car traveling at high speed which killed him instantly. Investigations later established that the man driving was drunk. In 2012, the Ministry of the Interior granted Deias the gold medal for civil valour, in 2013 the headquarters of the National Association of Carabinieri of Cagliari was named after him. Now the decision of the Municipality of Dolianova: the square located on the corner between via Bonaparte and via Mille Lire, currently under redevelopment, will bear his name.
