“Virtual” ribbon cutting, this morning in Cagliari, by the mayor Paolo Truzzu on the occasion of the reopening to the public of the Elephant Tower.

The first citizen of the Sardinian capital, accompanied by the councilors Gabriella Deidda (Public Works) and Maria Dolores Picciau (Culture), took part in the first tour of the medieval monument which was returned to citizens and tourists after four years of closure.

In October 2017, the fall of some parts of the walls made it necessary to close them to the public for safety reasons. But once the construction site opened, and after the first inspections, a more important intervention was necessary, which concerned not only the walls but also the wooden structure.

The works were completed according to the project of the architect Maria Luisa Mulliri and in line with the indications of the Superintendency that today, with Patricio Olivo, wanted to be present.

At the moment, the only part that still remains inaccessible is the terrace, which will be subject to a new safety intervention made necessary by the conditions of the structures on the top floor.

Rita and Giuseppe, resident in Assemini but from Cagliari, were the first visitors who were able to cross the entrance and climb the wooden staircase to admire the panorama of the city.
